The first three chapters from 'Tarot for Life'

Exercise 1: Manifesting

Magick can be as complicated as you like but the essence of it is extremely simple. Peter Carroll summed it up nicely with his phrase "sleight of mind". Impress an idea deep enough into your subconscious and it will start to manifest in outer reality.

The best way to prove this to yourself is by practical experiment. Don't try for earth-shattering results at first. A good example of the level to aim at would be finding your favourite sandwich available when you go to lunch. Another would be finding an ideal parking place.

Now take a few minutes to visualise the result you have chosen. Bring in as many senses as possible. This is one of the reasons I like food-based examples; food has something to offer all of the physical senses. Enjoy this part of the process as much as possible. When it feels as complete and as real as you can make it, return to here and now gradually, focussing on tactile sensations and sounds before opening your eyes.

The last part of the process is simply to put yourself where the experience concerned can happen. If your visualisation was a sandwich, it is unlikely to fulfill itself unless you go somewhere where sandwiches are available.

If the first attempt does not produce instant results, simply keep trying until the goal is achieved. The next goal will come more quickly. Like most worthwhile activities, manifesting takes practice.
